Shymkent Refinery will switch to EURO – 3, 4, and 5 on a step-by-step basis. Such requirement was set by the Government to ensure environmental safety. Our correspondent Zemfira Vorobyova studied the whole process from production to processing of oil, and learned about oil company’s social projects.
Kumkol field is just 200 km away from Kyzylorda. This is the axis of production of PetroKazakhstan Company. Annually, over 4 million tons of oil is produced here. After production the black gold is being separated from water and gas. Water is re-injected to keep the pressure, and gas is being utilized.
Zhu Fumin, Director, Field Operations, PetroKazakhstan Kumkol Resources:
"A huge amount of gas is used as fuel in our facilities, and the remaining gas is being re-injected for future needs.
Oil is transported to Shymkent Refinery. The company has plans to switch to manufacturing of the highest quality gasoline of EBPO 5 grade. In October this year, the Refinery will start a one - month capital overhaul to modernize the existing plants and units.
Jiang Shi, PetroKazakhstan Oil Products Vice President:
“Kazakhstan has only 3 Refineries, so suspension of our facilities would reduce gasoline amount by one third, but I think that in any case the Oil and Gas Ministry will get ready to the stoppage. That is why we are going to start the overhaul in October – right after the harvesting season is over.
Annually, the Company invests millions of dollars in the development and support of the regions where oil is produced and refined. Oil company employees pay a considerable attention to social issues. For example, they are sponsoring the Kyzylorda childcare center for kids with developmental delay.
Gulnas Anaspayeva, Chief Doctor, Kyzylorda childcare center:
“They completely replaced windows, doors, floors, ceilings in all our buildings, built terraces.
The company also sponsors Zhanakorgan kindergarten, Shymkent Youth House, and Sairam Orphanage. The kids are being taught by professional choreographers, and basics of economics are given by renowned specialists, while adults willing to start small businesses can get necessary equipment. Several mothers from low-income and large families already received sewing machines as gifts.
